UHS prepares for main entrance construction work

May marked the start of an exciting new phase for the Main Entrance and Retail Area (MERA) redevelopment at University Hospital Southampton (UHS).
Preparations are now well underway to enable the main construction work to start on site later this month. The taxi drop off area, which had been located outside the existing main entrance, has been moved to an alternative site and changes are being made to the road layout around the hospital to manage traffic flow and access to the hospital.
The £2.5m MERA project will create a welcoming and modern entrance for the thousands of patients, staff and visitors who pass through the hospital’s doors every day.

Belong Village plans presented to local community

A series of consultation events and heritage workshops have been held in Newcastle-under-Lyme to give local people the opportunity to shape plans for a new Belong Village – a state-of-the-art complex offering a mix of care services, apartments for independent living and community facilities.
Plans for the village include the restoration of a former nightclub, which is also a Grade II listed coach house. The aim is to turn this building into the Belong Heritage Gallery – a public facility that will encourage learning and celebrate the heritage of the site. It is hoped that part of the restoration work will be funded through a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Consultation events were held on the 14 and 30 April to present the plans for the proposed development and to give the public the chance to come along, ask the project team questions and give their feedback. Separate heritage workshops were held on the same dates for anyone with an interest in local heritage to share their ideas on the development of the Belong Heritage Gallery.
Feedback from the sessions will now be used to develop the scheme before the finished plans are submitted for planning in the coming weeks.
Prime is working in partnership with the not-for-profit award winning care provider CLS Care Services Ltd (operator of Belong villages) as a specialist development and investment partner to deliver the scheme in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Planning application submitted for improved parking at UHS

A planning application has been submitted to Southampton City Council for a new multi-storey car park at University Hospital Southampton (UHS).
The proposals for a six storey car park providing up to 778 spaces were presented to the general public and staff at the hospital in a series of consultation events held in March. Feedback from these sessions then shaped the final plans submitted to the Council this month.
The plans for a multi-storey car park are part of a wider scheme to improve access and parking across the UHS site, making it more user-friendly and enhancing the patient and visitor experience. This will be achieved by increasing the number of parking spaces at the hospital through the reconfiguration of existing car parks and by making it easier for drivers to find available spaces by introducing real time car park information, as well as better signage.
The multi-storey car park is one of the first projects to be delivered through a commercial estates development partnership (CEDP) between Interserve Prime and the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The CEDP will unlock a number of key sites within the hospital estate to benefit the Trust, with an initial programme of projects including improvements to onsite parking, a patient hotel and private patient facilities.
Public consultation held for Yeovil parking and access plans

A public consultation event was held on Tuesday 26 May to get feedback on proposals to improve access and parking at Yeovil District Hospital.
The plans presented to members of the public and hospital staff detailed the redevelopment of the Cheverton surface car park into a multi-storey car park and the construction of a new road to link Higher Kingston Road and Kingston Road. The developments are part of a wider estates strategy to improve access to the hospital and better meet current and future demand for parking onsite.
The drop in event was hosted by Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Interserve Prime. Members of the project team were on hand to answer questions and gather feedback on the proposals, which will now shape the final scheme before it is submitted to South Somerset Council for approval.
The parking and access redevelopment plans are also available online for any interested parties who were not able to attend the drop-in event.
