University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) has chosen Interserve – the international support services and construction group – as its long term commercial estates development partner in a Joint Venture LLP, which will also work with health and social care property company Prime to secure funding for new development projects.
The partnership will also design, build, finance and operate new facilities required by UHS, as well as providing the Trust with a spectrum of estates and support services, which will provide significant benefits for NHS patients and staff.
The initial programme of projects, one of the first of its kind in an acute environment, will focus on enhancing access and facilities to improve the patient, visitor and staff experience. These include a new main entrance and welcome centre with retail mall, a multi-storey car park with enhanced parking services, a patient hotel and private patient facilities.
UHS will receive an annual income from partnership activities and a share of the profits over the contract’s 10 plus 15 year term, which will go towards supporting and enhancing the delivery of NHS care at UHS.
