Care home plan given green light 22 May 2017

Planning permission has been granted for a new care home on Hafod Road, Hereford.

Formerly occupied by Hereford Council’s headquarters, Prime secured the land last year and has worked closely with care home operator Dormy Care Communities to develop plans for the 70-bed care home.

As an experienced healthcare developer, Prime has played an integral role in the design, development and planning phases of the project, working alongside Dormy Care Communities.

Dormy Care Communities will now take the development plans enabling frail, elderly residents to live in a purpose-built, 24-hour care accommodation, while remaining at the heart of a vibrant local community. In addition to en-suite bedrooms, residents will also enjoy numerous onsite facilities including a gym, cinema, hair salon and activity lounge.

To provide the best possible care, the home is split into 2 discrete wings. A central ‘hub’ provides the shared facilities including a bar and cafe, which will be accessible to all residents and visitors.

All bedroom accommodation is on two floors with lift access, while staff offices and facilities utilise the roof space. This has ensured the exterior height of the building is in keeping with the existing properties around it.

The façade and landscaping of the development has been carefully considered, with brick and render details echoing the style of architecture in the local area. The gardens will also be carefully landscaped to provide a variety of stimulating and attractive spaces for residents to enjoy.

Bob Smaylen, Development Director for Prime said: “We are very pleased that planning permission has been granted. This is an important scheme for the area and will address the shortfall of high quality care beds in Hereford. We know that Dormy Care will deliver a first-class care home. In doing so, not only will they create much needed elderly residential care, but also a number of local jobs too.”
