Prime’s work with Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (YDH) and the Yeovil Estates Partnership (YEP) has been recognised with a prestigious win at the recent IHEEM Healthcare Estates Awards 2016.
The YEP was nominated for the Estates and Facilities Team of the Year Award for its work transforming the Yeovil District Hospital estate. The YEP is a joint venture between Prime’s strategic estates partnership vehicle Interserve Prime and YDH.
Despite the challenges of increased demand, some ageing estate and limited capital, the YEP is making change happen at pace. Within two years it has delivered £21.8m worth of new build/refurbishment projects and reduced backlog maintenance by £13.7m, transforming the hospital site.
Prime’s property and commercial knowhow, and access to flexible and affordable private finance has been a key element in making many of these projects a reality including a £15m scheme to improve access and parking at the hospital, which is nearing completion, and a £3.5m state-of-the-art Emergency Assessment Unit to ease pressure on beds, particularly in the winter.
Leighton Chumbley from Prime said: “We are delighted to have won the award. Prime brings a wealth of experience to the YEP and is very much an integral part of the partnership, offering a wealth of experience and understanding of property development in a healthcare setting. Working closely with the existing estates team at YDH and the Trust’s board, Prime helps to turn plans into actions very quickly, making for more time and cost efficient estates transformation.”
David Shire, Head of Estates and Facilities at Yeovil District Hospital NHS FT said: “The Yeovil Estates Partnership has been key to delivering transformation at Yeovil District Hospital, to improve service delivery and provide high quality facilities. It’s very rewarding to see that our approach is not only bearing fruit at the hospital through the many completed projects, but that it’s also being recognised as best practice by our peers in the industry.”
The annual IHEEM awards are given for outstanding achievements in healthcare’s built environment sector. The industry honours for 2016 were presented by Dr Phil Hammond at a special ceremony at the Mercure Hotel in Manchester in October.
