Nairn Town and County Hospital

The first part of Nairn’s £12m flagship community hospital opened in July 2009, followed by phases two and three in September 2010. The development has transformed healthcare in the area by providing state of the art facilities, significantly more space and superior treatment rooms while guaranteeing the future of hospital provision in Nairn for the next 35 years.

The first phase houses 20 beds, Accident and Emergency, physiotherapy, two physiotherapy gyms, a new X-Ray machine, outpatient consultant clinics, GP consultant clinics, a new child health clinic and consulting room. The day hospital services include an occupational therapy kitchen and bedroom to help rehabilitate patients back into the community.

Phase two is a three-storey development that houses the two GP practices, social work, meeting areas and a waiting area. The third and final phase saw the renovation of the original Edwardian ward block into a modern five surgery dental unit.

Kenny Rogers Finance Manager/Project Manager, NHS Highland explained: “We had to agree solutions that everybody could support. Our good relationship with Prime was very important through the whole process. At the same time everything proposed had to pass a raft of tough financial tests to get approval from the Scottish Government and the health board, as well as our colleagues.”
