Claremorris
- Taoiseach, Enda Kenny
Three new primary care centres are being built in County Mayo, Ireland, including one in Claremorris for client the Health Service Executive (HSE). Due to be completed in September 2017, the 2,166sqm centre, which has a town centre location, will bring together a number of primary care services, including local physiotherapy services.
With designs already drawn up and planning achieved by the HSE, Prime’s role was to review and ensure innovation, quality and future-proofing of the design. At Claremorris, the team worked within the approved building footprint, using its considerable healthcare design expertise to make modifications and a number of additional recommendations, which add value to the scheme.
These included re-organising the space to ensure a more efficient patient flow and a welcoming reception, improving access with sliding doors and enhancing the patient experience through better wayfinding and where appropriate, a simplification of layout to provide more useable space.
The new Claremorris Primary Care Centre has been designed to provide flexibility for both short and longer term use, which will enable the building to accommodate changes in patient demographics and clinical need.
Using Building Information Modelling (BIM) and a collaborative design approach has allowed the Prime Balfour Beatty HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd consortium to work closely together and with the HSE on decision-making early in the process. Every element of the building from the ground up has been carefully considered, from construction to sustainability. Following this approach has enabled the project team and client to track progress, costs and quality easily, making delivery of this centre a true partnership at every level.
