Interserve brings a wealth of experience in the acute sector – from expertise in construction and facilities management to supporting strategic estates transformation. This complements our strong track record in primary and community care with 20 years’ experience in delivering bespoke development and funding solutions.
Interserve Prime’s specialists in healthcare planning and design, property development, construction, finance and facilities management create long-term Strategic Estates Partnerships (SEPs) with NHS Trusts to deliver solutions that respond to clinical need as well as operational and financial drivers.
SEPs are an effective way to shape and deliver estate masterplans to achieve a Trust’s strategic vision and help unlock the potential of its estate.

The benefits of a strategic estates partnership with Interserve Prime
Strategic estates partnerships offer a flexible, proven procurement route to financing and developing new facilities, helping to increase the pace of transformation.
With greater pressure from increased demand and reduced access to capital, they are an effective way of helping NHS Trusts to deliver improvements to facilities that support new models of care, offer new patient services, improve access or increase capacity – all of which are vital to enhancing the patient, visitor and staff experience.
Benefitting from Interserve Prime’s commercial expertise, they provide access to innovative funding solutions, allowing Trusts to access private investment funds for new developments, while allowing NHS capital to be focused on improvements to frontline patient services.
Most importantly, they can ensure Trusts retain control of their estate, providing flexibility for the future – both in terms of strategy and future developments.
We work with Foundation Trusts in strategic estates partnerships including the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Interserve Prime is in a Commercial Estates Development Partnership (CEDP) with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. One of the first of its kind in an acute environment, the CEDP aims to improve infrastructure and facilities at the hospital and in turn generate an income that can be reinvested into NHS services.
The first project to be delivered through the CEDP is a redevelopment of the main entrance and retail area at the hospital to improve the patient, visitor and staff experience and provide a wider choice of retailers and food and beverage outlets. Further projects include an access and parking solution, a private patient facility and a hospital hotel.
Hear from UHS' Former Development Projects Director, Nick Johnson, and Interserve Prime Director, Leighton Chumbley, as to how UHS is using its commercial estates development partnership to deliver innovative property funding solutions to support the delivery of its strategic plans.
In November 2014, Interserve Prime was appointed as the SEP partner for Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to help transform the hospital site, advising on the most practical and efficient ways to develop the hospital estate to ensure it meets both the current and future needs of patients and staff.
The first project to be delivered through the Yeovil Estates Partnership is for a new four-storey car park with 650 spaces and a new link road to improve access to the hospital. These gateway projects will prepare the hospital for increased numbers of visitors, and free-up land within the site to develop additional health and social care facilities.
