This award-winning scheme was crowned the UK’s most outstanding Extra Care scheme in 2009 in the UK Over 50s Housing Awards and winner of an EAC (Elderly Accommodation Counsel) Housing for Older People Award.
Completed in June 2009 this innovative development is located in an Area of Major Intervention and involved eight partner organisations. The project was born when NHS North Staffordshire and Aspire Housing commissioned Prima 200 to deliver a scheme twinning a modern primary care centre with a complex of 60 extra care apartments for the over fifties. Welcoming public areas plus a range of retail and leisure facilities ensure Mill Rise will be an asset for the whole community.
Mill Rise village sees the development of 60 one and two bedroom extra care apartments, a primary care centre with a restaurant, cafe, hairdresser, pharmacy and a piazza area, giving the communities of Knutton, Milehouse, Cross Heath and surrounding areas much needed purpose built healthcare facilities and a new housing option for older people.
Dr Ann Pursey, Chief Executive of Prima 200 acknowledges: “From the outset it was clear that combining the two developments into one would be of huge benefit to the local community. It probably would have been much easier to continue with separate sites, but from a patient perspective, integrating the expertise of a primary care facility with an extra care site complemented each other perfectly.”
